Finding a good vertical mouse is not easy. How do you know which one is right for you? For the past 2 years, we've been developing a vertical mouse focused on comfort, aesthetics & performance. During the process, we've learnt what makes a good vertical mouse, or what is the same - a comfortable mouse that helps you do your best work.
These are the top 6 features you should prioritize when looking for a good vertical mouse.
Disclaimer: this post includes insights gathered over the past 2 years of developing a vertical mouse. We've collected valuable insights from ergonomic experts, product testing and external hard evidence that helped us understand what makes a computer mouse comfortable to use.
What makes a good vertical mouse?
The following qualities separate a comfortable mouse from a regular one.
Mouse shape
This is the most crucial one. A more vertical gripping angle is more comfortable for your wrist and hand, because it places your wrist in a neutral position that doesn't add pressure to the complex structures of your wrist. Repetitive radial & ulnar deviations tend to be your enemy.

Button actuation forces
Harder buttons make your hands tire and cramp easier, especially if they are performed repetitively in not-so-great positions (such as your hand laying flat, instead of in a vertical angle). During our product testing, we've learnt that softer buttons allow for longer usage without negative consequences.
Mouse size
People tend to use products that are too small for their hands, causing their grip to be too tight or hard, which makes the hand cramp. Bigger items have a tendency to be more comfortable to use. Think of how it feels to hold a pen vs the steering wheel of your car. For a good vertical mouse, this is no different.
Sensor quality
This is not one you would expect: the more precise the sensor is, the fewer awkward movements you’ll have to do to point and click precisely. A gaming sensor makes a good vertical mouse great, because it enables you to have much more control and precision with each movement.
Gliders or mouse feet
Computer mice have some “feet” adhered to their bottoms which makes them glide around a surface. Some of them are not great, which result in rough, imprecise movements. Smoother gliders allow for more comfortable moves on your vertical mouse.
Weight
While a heavier weight makes the product “feel” nicer, it also affects its ergonomics. As a rule of thumb, the heavier the mouse is, the more uncomfortable it will become after some time. But there is a sweet spot, as too light makes a mouse almost unusable for most use cases.
Bonus comfort tip: your next posture is your best one. Don’t use the same gripping method or stay in the same posture for too long. Stretching, exercising and ergonomic devices go a long way! 🫲
